Sung to the tune of Doorie, by Atif Aslam:

In The Summertime

Yes! Good weather is finally here! The trees are green, the breeze is warm, and cute babies are back out on the street..

But summer, in some ways, also heralds for me a season of misery and despair.

Why? Let me explain:

Warm Weather = Must Enjoy It Before Its Gone = Must Buy Trendy Clothes To Look Hot = Must Spend Big Bucks Or Else Feel Frumpy Forever!

Since I am generally cheap when spending on myself, summer automatically means a time of low self-esteem for me because I can never look as good as I'd like.. *sigh*.

Believe it or not, I miss winter.

Think about it: even though it's a pain in general, winter is great fashion-wise. No one expects you to stray from blacks and grays that cover you from neck to toe. No one even cares to be fashionable, there's only so pointy a stilletto boot heel can go!

But in summer.. ohh.. how the tables turn on you.

Suddenly, it's all about sleeves, and skirt lengths, and peep-toes, and big sunglasses, and necklaces and - mother of all catastrophes - nail polish.

You see why moving to California gives me the shudders? *shudder*

So anyway, as usual I get my fashion tips from (i.e. I feel unworthy because I see) women on the train, and given the recent burst of good weather I've had a chance to assess my needs and wants. And yet again this year it seems that my wardrobe is seriously lacking in the shoe department.

Considering the amount of pink in my closet, I've decided I need pink shoes. And I really need to get trendier sneakers for walking around town because my Nike lace-ups are too bulky. I like the ballerina style that's gotten popular recently, and I also want a pair of wedges - though everything would preferably be close-toed because I'm not paying $50 a month for fancy pedicures and I'm not spending as much time as I have in the past actually attempting (unsuccessfully) to apply my own nail polish.

Given that my train home was delayed, I had plenty of time to observe the "far trendier woman" creature today. And as these thoughts entered my mind on the train ride home, I felt sad, doomed to unfashionableness due to chronic laziness, a hatred of shopping in general, and of course, the pinch of the wallet.

But then as the girl next to me crossed her legs and I saw her gorgeous cork-wedge lace-up sandals, I decided: enough is enough. I must be trendy or else die a fashion death on Boston's Commuter Rail. Screw it - I'm going shoe-shopping!

But.. how to get it done without a car and before the weekend?

Never fear, I said to myself (umm.. not really, that's not how I talk to myself).

I got home and immediately zipped onto zappos.com and shortlisted the following pairs of shoes for impending purchase after a 20 minute search:

I'm taking a day to sleep on it and think the purchase over... since shelling out anything over $50 for myself is hard for me.. but in the meantime any thoughts or opinions (from the female readers, of course, I'm fairly certain the eyes of my male readers glazed over a long time ago) would be much appreciated.

Ta!

Wow. I've had 3 comments posted on my blog in the last 6 weeks.

Why do I even bother?

Moving Along

I was introduced to a song called "Move Along," by The All American Rejects by a friend at work many months ago. At the time I just thought it had a cool video (we were trying to recreate it as a spoof for our own video about our team... long story), but now I realize that this song is quite inspirational.

"When all you got to keep is strong - move along, move along like I know you do..
And even when your hope is gone - move along, move along just to make it through..
Move along.."

So true. It's so important to just keep movin' along. And I am.

Tomorrow I start freelancing with a small agency in downtown Boston, working on a project for them, presumably for a week or two. They will also have a job opening soon so this is a good way for me to suss out whether I'd like to work here.

And on Wednesday, I have another interview with another small agency in downtown Boston, which seems to be quite eager to have me on board.

So who knows, I might actually meet my own deadline of having a job by the end of the month. Let's cross our fingers and see :)

Things I Want To Eat, Now That I Can't

As seen on TV, in order of desirability:

Pizza Hut's Cheesy Bites Pizza

KFC 14 pc. Family Size Meal

Quizno's Prime Rib Sandwich

Taco Bell's Crunchwrap Supreme (actually I wanted the Carne Asada, but I couldn't find a picture of it online, so the Crunchwrap will have to do)

And of course..

Dunkin Donuts' Hot Chocolate

Dammit Abdu, I'm now obsessed with "Woh Lamhe" by Jal. Grr. My i-Pod will ghissofy playing the same song over 'n over but I cannot give it up! Went to sleep last night with the tune in my head, and awoke in the same state too. Curses!

So this girl came to check out my apartment since I'm re-letting it after the wedding. She loved it. Funny how what you find boring is someone else's utopia. Well, it looks nicer after the furniture shift anyway so I can't blame her. I think I'm gonna miss my house :(

Sarwar's apartment is too cold (Yammie you were right). It's sunny and warm outside but in this underground tiled rabbit burrow it is about 20 degrees colder. Brrrrr.

Alright, off to listen to that godforsaken song again. I'm addicted (hey that's an Abdu song too! remember? ;)

Laterz.

So I was bored (Sarwar is sick and hence quarantined to his apartment) and changed my furniture around. Suddenly my crusty ol' place looks good. Bugger that I have to leave in 2 months :(

Mood Swings

End of enchantment
Only disappointment
Causes resentment.

Free of illusion
No stimulation
Adds to aggravation.

Anger forces apathy
Simmers into envy
Question fate's bigotry.

Inequity illogical
Salvation seems possible
Hope springs eternal.

I am easily the saddest person I know.

I look at Naseeb. I read people's blogs. Heck, I just see the away messages of random people on my IM lists. Everyone has so many friends. Good, real, decent friends, who care about them, talk to them, send them presents, love them for who they are, support them in times of need, actually miss their physical presence and come out and say it. Everyone has memories - of childhood, of parents and grand-parents, and college roommates. Everyone has war stories and private dirt, everyone made good of their years in university and drained them to the last drop.

And then there's me. All alone. No one to tie me to any past from anywhere. No one place, no one person. I have more ex-friends than people have best friends. Most of my photographs include people that I can't look at without feeling a deep sense of loss. I have no one who remembers me or gives a damn where I got to. It's like I never impacted anyone or anything before, as if I've been invisible my whole life and passed through time and space without denting an atom. I've drifted from school to school, country to country, group to group, and no one stuck on.

Always the social misfit, always the butt of everyone's jokes, always two steps behind everyone, always putting my foot in my mouth, always realizing at the last minute what I should have been doing all along to make sure I'd fit in.

Never in the class video, never in the group photo, never asked to come along, never able to say "Sorry, I'm busy", never able to prove just how much I could do, never in the clubs and organizations that I could have revolutionized.

Always in the shadows, aching to be in the spotlight, never having the courage to step forward, and never invited either.

Sadly, as I look over my past, I'm flooded with regrets and 'shouldves'. Should've said that, done that, worn that; gone there, raised my hand there, kept my mouth shut there.

You know when you write an email bitching about someone and hit the "Send" button instead of "Cancel" and as soon as you click your mouse you realize "Oh shit, I shouldn't have done that"? That's how I feel about my life.

Yup, I'm the saddest person I know.
