Strange. I always felt that "Deathly Hallows" would refer to a process.. to hallow means to consecrate or make holy (hence Halloween being the other name for All Saints Day when dead souls are honored).. and maybe that would be the process by which Voldemort would be extinguished (hence Deathly)...
But the British covers show no action being performed.. just treasure or jewelry. The locket is clearly the horcrux Regulus stole, and I'm having a hard time understanding why Harry, Hermione and Ron look so pained while being flooded by all that gold.
The only "place" represented is that amphitheatre type arena on the American cover which hardly looks deathly.. in fact it seems like there's a nice sunset going on in the background. But Voldemort has never been on the cover before, and it seems like both he and Harry are reaching out towards the sky trying to summon the same thing, while others watch in the background, so this could be the actual final battle where the two confront one another and one must die. Maybe this battle *is* the Deathly Hallows process?
Who knows. My biggest concern right now is that the book comes out on my husband's birthday. How am I going to provide him with undivided attention when the book is sitting right there in front of me, itching to be read? :/
