A close friend of mine called Shabbi Khan shared some very sad news with me a few months ago. His mother, Farhana, was diagnosed with a highly aggressive form of leukemia on New Year's Eve, 2005 and is currently in a very serious condition.
With no medical insurance, state or federal aid to cover medical costs, Shabbi's family has already racked up over $160,000 in medical expenses. Doctors have decreed that his mother will require a bone marrow transplant in the near future to ensure any success of her survival, but have said that a transplant will not be possible without any form of insurance or a payment up front. The family is very financially strapped, and it is for this reason that I'm reaching out to you for help.
How can you help? Just spend 5 minutes doing one or more of the following things:
1. Pray for his mother's health, and for his family to continue having the strength and patience to endure this ordeal.
2. Check out his website www.mymomhascancer.com.
Shabbi has set up this website and is accepting donations, big or small, from anyone willing to help him reach his $500,000 goal for his mom's BMT, by sponsoring cancer survivor stories.
3. Spread the word via emails to friends, announcements at your local mosques or even putting this story on your blog, website, or Facebook/Naseeb/Friendster profile.
If anyone has ever heard a funny story about my time at Northwestern, it has included Shabbi Khan. He was always the life of every party, an outrageously funny person with a really good heart. Seeing him so dedicated towards desperately trying to save his mother's life makes me proud to call him my friend. I really hope you'll help him in this effort.
JazakAllah.
